As Dreams Crash
Sep. 18th, 2023 05:07 pmPrompt: Moon
The elders had decreed it, the last of the Starlights had made their way up to the Stars yesterday. Leshnoye did not have to approve or even accept. The elders had decreed it and today the last of the elevators were to fall to the planet below.
Leshnoye, did not, as a rule wear black. She was a Moon, pale as the beams of light it reflected onto the planet below, but she had covered herself in shadow for this occasion and the other Moons around her had done the same. She could not imagine what the Moon looked like from the planet below, shrouded in shadow. There were no Moons on the planet to force the face to shine once more.
She could sense the fear in those below, and it reflected back on the faces of the other Moons around her. It must show on her own face as well. She was so young.
When she was but a babe, sheltered inside the Moon she had felt the people on the planet and dreamed of walking among them. In moments the way to that dream would fall forever.
There were no words from the elders before Leshnoye felt the last constellation line between the Stars and the planet below snap. There were no words and she and the other Moons took a collective step forward as if to grab the elevator, to attach it to themselves and prevent it from falling. Leshnoye shuddered as the final elevator crashed onto the planet below.
